Vicki Hansen is an Australian composer and musician. She began studying piano at age four then moved on to study a number of musical instruments over the following years, including guitar, flute, violin, bass guitar, African djembe, Darabuka drum, bansuri flute, didgeridoo and others.
She then spent several years studying North Indian Hindustani flute under the tutelage of Ashok Roy, disciple of Ali Akbar Khan, and then classical vocal music from teachers Neeta Bhattacharyya and Sarangan Sriranganathan, virtuosic instrumentalist and vocalist from Sri Lanka.
Over the years Vicki has composed numerous soundtracks for theatre, dance, circus, film and television. Hansen was commissioned by Beyond International in 2000 - 2005 to compose soundtracks for a number of documentaries that have aired worldwide. She has recorded and produced several albums now on national and international release. She has also recorded several albums with her husband, Ron Ragel, and together they are co-directors of Medicine Music and Global Network, organisations dedicated to research and dissemination of information about the therapeutic power of music and sound, with particular reference to the ancient ragas and chants of India. Through their work, they support many humanitarian movements, mainly the Sarvodaya Organisation in Sri Lanka, and are advocates of World Peace through inner transformation.
