[edit] Biography

Born in Barcelona in Catalonia, he spent his childhood in the Cantabria region where his father was a footballer. Engonga started his senior career with local lower league clubs Gimnástica Torrelavega and Sporting Mahonés.

In 1991, he moved to Real Valladolid in the top-flight Spanish La Liga championship. In his first year with Real Valladolid, the club was relegated to the Segunda División and Engonga left the club. He moved to La Liga club Celta de Vigo, with whom he was finalist of the 1994 Copa del Rey.[2] In the summer 1994, he was bought by multiple La Liga champions Valencia CF. He played three years at Valencia, before moving to league rivals RCD Mallorca in 1997, to play under manager Hector Cuper. With RCD Mallorca, he won the 1998 Supercopa de España, beating FC Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate. He was called up for the Spain national football team, and made his national team debut in September 1998 against Russia. He scored his only national team goal in May 1999, against Croatia. Engonga reached the final of the international 1998-99 Cup Winners' Cup tournament with RCD Mallorca, losing the game 1-2 to Italian team SS Lazio.

He was a participant for the Spanish national team at the 2000 UEFA European Championship in June 2000. He played one match at the tournament, against Slovenia, which was the last game of his national team career. Engonga was a part of the Mallorca team which qualified for the 2001-02 UEFA Champions League, the first UEFA Champions League participation in club history. In 2002, his contract with RCD Mallorca expired. Engonga moved to lower-league club Real Oviedo. He played six months for Oviedo, before moving abroad in January 2003. He signed a six months loan deal with English club Coventry City, and he subsequently ended his career at the end of 2002-03 season.

During his career, Engonga also represented the unofficial Cantabria autonomous football team.[citation needed]
