Welcome to Wikipedia. I notice you have updated the population number for several South Australian cities. Would you be able to return and provide a reference to where you got the newer numbers? I'm sure you can understand that numbers like these are subject to vandalism, so having the reference to the source is helpful in combatting that. You can see how to mark the references by reading WP:REF, or just add them to the talk page and someone will come along and insert them for you if you'd rather. You might also be interested in WikiProject Adelaide and Wikiproject Australia. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 00:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- Replying to Mal's response at User talk:ScottDavis#Populations
- No worries Mal. Welcome. If you could provide the exact URL from the ABS, that would be helpful. The simplest way is to put the URL between square brackets straight after the population number. [http://www.abs.gov.au/] renders as [1]. Many pages use footnotes to be able to provide more information about the source - see WP:FOOT and Help:Footnotes for details, but use <ref>footnote text</ref>. Often the footnote text will be a template like {{cite web}} that includes parameters for all the metadata about the reference. Welcome. You'll get the hang of it and become hooked. --Scott Davis Talk 01:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
