[edit] Picture

The picture doesn't look anything like Victoria Paris. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.25.105.73 (talk • contribs)

I'm taking LukeIsBack.com's word for it that it is. Do you have a better picture that you took yourself, and are willing to release under GFDL?AnonEMouse (squeak) 12:53, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, for one thing, she was known to be a blond. A picture can be found at the IAFD: http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=VParis/gender=f —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.25.105.73 (talk • contribs)

Either picture could be dye; but I'll send an email to Luke Ford and ask if he is sure his photo is Paris. When/if he replies, I'll copy it here. He releases his pictures to us under the GFDL, the IAFD doesn't (in fact, I strongly suspect the IAFD doesn't obey copyright laws ... but that's just my suspicion), however we certainly want to have the right person's picture. I've written the email. Meanwhile, though, the page background of her official site, http://vickyparis.com/ clearly shows her as a brunette (with blonde streaks), and looks reasonably close to the image we display. AnonEMouse (squeak) 14:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I believe that is her, Victoria Paris. I could be wrong but I am 90% sure that is her.

Dear Mr. L-ke F-rd:
First, thank you again for putting your extensive web site photos under the GFDL for the Wikipedia. They've been an important asset to our porn star articles.
A question has come up about the photo we're using for our Victoria Paris article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Victoria_Paris_DSC_1238.JPG
I got the image from http://www.lukeisback.com/images/photos/050109.htm where it is linked to with the link title "Victoria Paris". However another contributor says "The picture doesn't look anything like her; for one thing, she was known to be a blond. A picture can be found at the IAFD: http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=VParis/gender=f "
So I'm writing you to confirm. Are you quite sure that is a photo of Victoria Paris? Any comments as to alternate photos, hair color, or anything else?
Thank you for your help. (an) Anon E. Mouse wikipedia editor, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AnonEMouse

90% doesn't sound like totally sure, but I'm more convinced by reasonable likeness on http://vickyparis.com. So between those two, I do think the image is a good shot of her. She's aged a bit since the IAFD shot, which is probably 10 years old or so, and has cut back on the blonde hair dye. Remember, she's either 40 or 45 now, and looks quite good given that. Just to note a correction: the images in question aren't under GFDL, but under the Creative Commons Attribution license 2.5. -- Joe Beaudoin Jr. Think out loudWP:PORN BIO? 22:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
The picture is either of Victoria Paris or someone else. The guy who took it (Luke Ford) is 90% sure it's her. That means that according to the photographer there's a 10% chance that it someone else, call her Jane Doe. If the picture is of Paris, no problem, but if it's of Jane Doe, we've just implied she's a porn star. That's libelous because it's false and because we knew there was a reasonable chance of it being false, we can't hide behind the "Oh I thought it was her" excuse.
Furthermore: the girl in the pic looks like late 20s early thirties. VP is in her 40s now. The girl in the pic has a straight nose, VP has a cute upturned nose where the nostrils appear clearly when she looks straight at you. VP has higher cheek bones.
Better to get a "fair use" pic until there's a better pic available. Hey: ask the site owner to contribute one pic, it's free publicity... Dsc1238 12:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
I'd buy the potential libel issue if it were of a random person on the street, however Ford is quite sure that it is of a girl at a porn convention posing for photos. The page that it comes from is a collection of snapshots taken from the AVN expo. Ford's uncertainty is only of possible misidentification among the hundreds of other porn stars there. Until he takes down the notice on that page that it is Victoria Paris, that is still pretty good. Meanwhile, the photo is still the best we have. If you can get a better image, please do so, and we will put it here, but until then, please don't take down the one we have. AnonEMouse (squeak) 15:36, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Ford is not quite sure; that's the point. Until the source is 100% certain it's her, please leave the picture off. 90% leaves too much room for reasonable doubt, especially since he posted 50+ snapshots of that evening. He's bound to have made mistakes. This is Victoria Paris (notice the name tag).
And the libel potential stands, even if this is not a girl off the street. Let's say it's Jane Supervixen, a professinal 28 year old AV starlet. She could consider it libel because it says she is Victoria Paris, a falsehood stated knowing there was reasonable doubt, which attributes her AV work to someone else. Not to mention Victoria Paris herself finding libel by a having a picture of someone else misrepresented as being of her.
BTW, this isn't about taking down pictures or deleting stuff. I'm not interested in searching for a picture on the internet or of meeting VP to get one. However, I am interested in accuracy. If you insist on a picture, onus on you to get one over which there's no controversy on the identity of the model. The photographer's own statement ackowledges the controversy. 61.198.252.245 01:21, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
