[edit] Song information
The single reached only number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was Abdul's first single not to make the Top 10 in the U.S. since the original release of "(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" in 1988. Many considered this the beginning of the decline of Abdul's music career.
The song was also performed at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, Abdul was the subject of a lawsuit alleging that another woman's vocals were used on her albums; for this reason, Abdul chose to sing the track live. Because the song relies heavily on vocal samples and layered vocals, it is difficult to replicate live, and Abdul's vocal performance during the awards show was considered underwhelming. In addition, Abdul's apparent weight gain was mocked, in part due to a glittering corset that was adorned by a bulky battery pack in the back.
Abdul joked about the performance on The Arsenio Hall Show.
