Images marked as nonprofit use or wikipedia use only aren't usable. If the image belongs to you, mark it as GFDL please. If not, then you have to use one of the fair use tags and write a fair use rationale. Best wishes. --Guinnog 20:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Links

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:19, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:22, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked again

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for continuing to add spam links. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. Gogo Dodo 20:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm doing wrong. The external links that I am creating are very relevant to the topics, add to the overall breadth of Wikipedia and are a positive contribution to the community. Take the example of the article on Polish Americans. A link to a radio program about the first Polish people to arrive in America seems like exactly the kind of external link you would want in Wikipedia. And according to the external link policy, it classifies as a "Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews" which is identified as what "Should be linked" If the links I'm creating are not appropriate, what is an appropriate external link?"

Decline reason: "You are obviously affiliated with VFH radio, and you are posting links to VFH radio items all over. It is in direct violation of our policy on conflicts of interest. If the editors of individual pages decide to keep the links, they may end up being kept, but this kind of behavior from you is unacceptable. If you continue in this vein, you will be indefinitely blocked. Wikipedia is not a promotional tool. Mangojuicetalk 20:46, 10 July 2007 (UTC)"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

Mangojuice, thanks, I actually understand that reasoning. I hadn't seen the Conflict of Interest policy and I'm happy to abide by it. From reviewing the spam link policy and external link policy I thought I wasn't doing anything against the community rules. Thank you for taking the time to explain this.

[edit] National Register of Historic Places in Virginia

I noticed you've been creating a lot of entries on National Register of Historic Places properties in Virginia. It looks like you're doing a good job so far. I just thought I'd point out a few things:

  • The subject of the article is usually bolded in the first sentence. For example: "Beaver Creek Plantation, under the ownership of George Hairston, was one of the largest slave-holding tobacco plantations Virginia has ever seen." See WP:MOS#Article_titles for information.
  • I'd also recommend mentioning the city where the property is located within the first sentence, and wikilinking it as well. If there are articles about notable personalities within Wikipedia, consider wikilinking them too.
  • If there's a category about the city, such as Category:Lynchburg, Virginia, it's a good idea to put the article in that category. There's often a subcategory for buildings and structures in a city, such as Category:Buildings and structures in Minneapolis, which would be appropriate for these articles. Of course, not all of the articles in a buildings and structures category are on the National Register.

There's a WikiProject dedicated to the National Register of Historic Places, at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places. You're invited to check it out. Happy editing! --Elkman (Elkspeak) 18:20, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aberdeen Gardens (Hampton, Virginia)

I've removed the references. It look slike you've got it mixed up with Madden's Tavern. Perhaps you can go back and add the correct references. Regards. -- Whpq 19:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Image-VFH-logo.gif)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Image-VFH-logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shell babelfish 06:53, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
