Verkhny Ufaley (Russian: Верхний Уфалей) is a town located in the northern part of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, on the Ufaley River (a tributary of the Ufa River), 142 kilometers (88 mi) north-west of Chelyabinsk. Population: 33,700 (2005 est.);[citation needed] 34,360 (2002 Census);[1] 40,061 (1989 Census).[2]

It was founded in 1761 and was granted town status on April 26, 1940.[citation needed]
