[edit] Pronunciation

Intending no offense, can someone tell me how this town came to be pronounced the way it is, especially since it was named after the French city? Thanks.

[edit] Pronunciation

I removed some crap about the pronunciation due to "United States dislike of France". What crap! Anyway, American towns with French names always take a phonetic pronunciation; it's just the way things were done when towns were founded in the 18th and 19th centuries. Paris, Texas is not called "ParEE"; Bourbon County, Kentucky is not "BorBONH"; New Orleans, Louisiana isn't "New OrlayANH" (much less "Nouveau Orléans").

Likewise, Detroit is not day-TWAH. Heck, it's surprising we don't pronounce the s's in Des Moines. Schoop (talk) 18:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
