[edit] Notability

I have deleted the notability link due to the ample publicity that has been written in the Scottish Newspapers such as:

-The Scotsman -The Edinburgh Evening News -The Evening Times

Also a visit to the blog on the link below will show that there is ample evidence that the debate regarding this woman is still occuring, with an important piece of legislation at stake. Margaretlilley.

Well, you actually have to establish notability in the article itself, not on the Talk page, with valid references re WP:CITE. Please follow the links provided regarding our criteria for the notability of biog articles. --Mais oui! 01:05, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

I apologise, i meant no harm. I must have misunderstood the Guidelines. I am not sure about the issues for taking material from Newspapers if i am going to try to establish notability. Also, am i allowed to use information from some letters pages from these publications? i seem to have made a bit of a bungle of my initial attempt at editing TSE's initial article, looks like i will have to take my time a bit in the future. Also what is a AFD? Margaretlilley 10:07, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Have a look at some of the Featured articles or good articles, to see how references are done properly, but for stubs like this it is not necessary. If Scotsman articles are available, just bung the links in a wee section called References, near the foot. Unfortunately Herald ones go dead after a couple of days. We can tidy it up a little if needed. As far a notability is concerned, getting mentioned in the papers, even a lot, is not necessarily enough, see Wikipedia:Notability (people). She may be notable under:
  • Major local political figures who receive significant press coverage - perhaps
  • Widely recognized entertainment personalities and opinion makers (ie - Hollywood Walk of Fame) - probably not
  • Persons achieving renown or notoriety for their involvement in newsworthy events - probably
Just bung something to that effect in the intro, plus links to newspaper articles, or else just name 1 or 2 of the most important articles. I'm going to remove the notabiliy template in anticipation of this. (AFD means Articles for deletion - but I don't think that will be necessary - it would probably survive even if it were AFD'd.) --Mais oui! 19:55, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
