Venezuela competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Weightlifter Israel Jose Rubio won the nation's first medal of these Games when he placed third in the 62kg class. It was Venezuela's eighth medal in Olympic history, but first since the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.
