Venango Path
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Venango Path was a major Native American trail that was used for many years in Western Pennsylvania. George Washington and guide Christopher Gist used the trail to get to Fort Le Boeuf prior to the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War). During the war years, the trail became a major military route.
[edit] History
Some of the villages and places along the route included the Forks of the Ohio (Pittsburgh), Logstown, Murdering Town, Fort Machault, and Fort Le Boeuf.
Over the years, urban development has claimed most of the original trail, but some major highways,, including U.S. Route 19, and PA 528 still follow the trail closely.
Venango Path is a desigated Pennsylvania historic landmark. There are two state markers for the trail. One is in Butler County and the other in Venango County.
