Venkatagiri is a small town in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. It is known as fort town and famous for cotton & jaree sarees. In this town village diety is "POLERAMMA". Here doing POLERAMMA JATHARA(occasion) for every year. It comes 3rd wednesday after VINAYAKA CHAVITHI since 1800. (Same day one of the occasion doing in GERMANY. As per history, have some relation for both occasions). It has a large population of weavers. The other significant communities include Balija(Kapu),Reddy ,Jetty and Velamas.It was ruled by velama dynasty who belong to velugoti family. They still live in the same town. Famous personalities from the town are Dr. Sai Krishna Yachandra, who is ex-MLA and Gera Dhara, Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy who served as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nedurumalli Rajya Laxmi who is the present educational minister of state and members of velugoti family.
