[edit] Description

The winged lion is the emblem of Saint Mark, and often symbolizes Venice. This statue is part of a larger monument in Venice by Ettore Ferrari, 1887, of Vittorio Emanuele II, the first King of Italy. Here the roaring lion represents Venice freed from the chains of the Hapsburg Empire in 1866.
