Category:Venetian painters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The painters in this category are painters from the Venetian Republic (last doge abdicated in 1797). The majority are mentioned, if not featured in illustrations, in A Concise History of Venetian Painting by John Steer (Thames and Hudson, 1979, London). Among painters mentioned in that book, who had links to Venice, but not added to the category are Niccolo da Pietro, Lorenzo Veneziano, Antonello da Messina, Jacobello del Fiore, Antonio Pisanello, Lorenzo Lotto, Bernardo Belloto, Johann Liss, and Giovanni da Bologna.

Many painters, not born in Venice, moved and made a career for themselves in the Republic. For a more thorough listing, see List of painters and architects of Venice. Also see venetian painters included in a Gallery Catalogue of the Accademia of Venice.
