Velepromet concentration camp

Velepromet camp was a concentration camp on the outskirst of the Croatian city of Vukovar. It was set up by the Yugoslav People's Army and Serbian paramilitary forces during the Battle of Vukovar. Between the 18th and 20th of November 1991 approximately 10,000 people of Croatian ethnicity were detained in the buildings of the company "Velepromet".

The camp actually consisted of several brick buildings and six tin storage hangars where most of the people were kept. Witnesses reported brutal acts of torture, beating up of prisoners which lasted for hours, random machine-gun executions and scenes of decapitating people.

The camp was closed in March of 1992. Around 800 people were killed, and in 2008. according to the official data of the Croatian Government around 1,100 people were still reported missing, many of them last seen at the notorious Velepromet concentration camp.
