Vehicle registration plates of Moldova

License plates in Moldova were introduced on November 30, 1992. They consist of 7 characters: 2 letters for region (except for Chisinau, which only has the letter C), 2 letters for the series and 3 digits. The characters are black on a white background. The left side of the plate carries the coat of arms of Moldova with the country index MD.

The plates are 520 mms wide and 112 mms high.

The license plates of Transnistria are composed a letter, three numbers and two more letters. The plates are the same length and colour as Moldovan plates.

The first letter indicates where in Moldova the car was registered.

  • C - Chisinau
  • HN - Hîncesti

  • Goverment vehicles - Composed of two letters, a hyphen, a single letter, another hyphen and three letters.
  • Army vehicles - composed of two letters and four numbers.
  • Police vehicles - composed of a letter, three more letters (three letters would be 'POL'), and three numbers.
