Vebjørn Sand Da Vinci Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Da Vinci Project by Norwegian painter and artist Vebjørn Sand consists of a number of installations in Norway.

The most well known of these is the reconstruction in a smaller scale of a 240 m span bridge that Leonardo da Vinci proposed in 1502 as part of a civil engineering project for Sultan Bayezid II of Constantinople (Istanbul.) The bridge serves as a pedestrian crossing over European route E18 in Ås, Norway.

The project hopes to build the design as practical footbridges around the world, including the Golden Horn in Istanbul, using local materials and collaborating with local artisans as a global public art project. The Wall Street Journal referred to the Project as a "...logo for the nations." (WSJ, Nov. 5-6, 2005)
