I've spent much time working out how an why the island came to be as it is, an so i've been working on a page to aid viewers understanding. Its been very difficult and damn complex! Maybe this site could place an official link to it.

‘’’NOTES ON THE ISLAND HISTORY PAGES’’’

‘’’Matters On Reasonable Judgement – [how the author went about filling in the missing story gaps]’’’

These now filled in missing historical moments, were reasoned using this authors background in science and engineering, in addition to my occupation as being a freelance screen-writer since 1990. Thus by combining both the theoretical of the scientific world with the creative of the artistic world, this document approximates the most probable, as according to what’s reasonable. The aspect is not as abstract or as arbitrary as readers may assume, since all drama has to follow a logical pattern of cause and effect. These dramatised events must generally match the reality of the normal world of human behaviour, and in other matters obey the laws of physics, even if some scientific theories are moreover possible than probable.

In addition, from an artistic perspective, all fictional characters are motivated to do an say what their character dictates, which is not necessarily what an audience member may want. This is because screenwriters need to make all the characters and moments be reasonable rather than ridiculous, for otherwise their audience either find an entertainment overly predictable, or would doubt the credibility of what they’re seeing, an ultimately dismiss it as believable drama. At the outset this is fine for a genre like comedy, but the Lost Tv programme could not be a comedy with such a high death toll of pithy characters. However even madcap comedies like the 3 ‘naked gun’ films have at least a structure, and a semblance of human behaviour by which their characters can work within, an through which their audience can relate to, and believe could possibly occur, however remote a possibility that might be. Whereas in the case of the fantasy genre, like the ‘lord of rings’ films and books, their content never need be feasible in the real-world, as its designed to be pure escapism, with ‘the wizard of oz’ story being a great example of this. Though do note that all fiction like this, still has to have a logical progression of rational cause & effect.

‘’’Notes On Interpretation’’’

The purpose then of this page, is to aid the understanding of how the main events on the island came to take place, especially as the islands history is so complex that it foreshadows all that takes place on it in the present time. Therefore by appreciating the series back-story, one can better relate to what is broadcast in each episode.

The unofficial extra information is present to link all the known events together, so that those wishing to know how matters may have preceded one an other, can ascertain the reasons behind the sequence of events, and appreciate their repercussions. This extra info may not be factual, as yet, but certainly is probable, given writers don’t write arbitrarily, but with a direction of logical reasoning. For this way the missing aspects of the series can be uncovered by estimating what generally possible. Although, as new information comes to light, then this will be used to adjust and update the contents here.

For when a heavily mysterious series offers a lack of information, it may lead to some becoming so confused that their interest would wane to the point they eventually stop watching, which is why the viewing figures for the ‘Twin Peaks’ mystery-drama series fell sharply after the first dream sequence occurred. But the writers of the Lost Tv show aren’t that enigmatic, as they provide progressive answers per episode. However given how long the islands pre-history was before the series main characters got there, means there’s much that remains unexplained, an this colours the series events due to their significance, though at least here these missing points are presented in a connecting fashion of some explanation rather than none whatsoever.

To conclude, these estimations may end up representing what the shows executive producers have already structured for themselves already, as referencing material, so they can pace the episodic delivery of historical fact, as over the set amount of remaining seasons. Hence, some information here may contain spoilers, though accidentally so, for if any of the estimations turn out to be generally correct.

‘’’Exclusions’’’ These are information pieces that are unrelated to significant developments on the island, Eg- the exact details of how and why a character fell off a cliff to his death doesn’t effect the island, only that they died while on the island. This is because the series on-screen drama conveys this perfectly to not need this document explain matters again. However a ship sailing to becoming offshore with whose owner an crew intent on seize the island for their control, is much more significant, as are all related developments which pertain to one or more people, wanting to play a big part in the islands history, whether they be situated on it, or thousands of miles away.

‘’’Acknowledgements’’’ The artistic endeavour above, is not meant to disenfranchise the Lost Tv series writers and ABC television, or instruct them how their storytelling should be, but only to fill-in the missing information that the shows writers have intentionally or accidentally not revealed, whether such information be un-written, or un-thought of in their imaginations.
Note to the producers – authorisation given here for usage of above material as potential reference points, excluding un-broadcast pre-conceived background details, as yet not series canon.
