Vahzakkala is a sub-urban area situated near the city of Kochi (formerly Cochin). It can be classified as a typical residential area adjacent to schools, colleges and professional institutions. Even though it is a suburb, almost all functions and facilities are available at this place. Main transportation modes are two and four wheelers and public transport system, namely buses.
This place is adjacent to the District Collectorate and Special Economy Zone, Kochi. This add up to the tag of the place as a residential area.
There are two zones for Vazhakkala. One is the North Zone and the other, is South. Both are equally developed. Almost all features of city are available here like Cable Television, Mobile and Landphones of all companies and shops. However there is a shortage of good shopping centres at this place.
There are Churches, Mosques and Temples (written is in alphabetical order) near to this place. People live in harmony and peace.
There is currently a resident's associaltion functioning well in this area. They have periodic meetings and other activities.
The roads are bit congested in the time of peak traffic, especially at school and office times.
Cochin international airport is about 30 km away from this place. There are two railway stations near by at a distance of about 8 and 10 kilometres. They are Ernakulam Town (also called North) and Ernakulam Junction (and this one is South).
This place is continuously developing, and it is situated in the Thrikkakara (This is a Panchayath, land division followed in India) which is famous for the Thrikkakara temple.
Another educational institution here is the Cochin University of science and technology. It is at about 10 minutes drive from Vazhakkala.
There are hotels and other facilities for visitors available. The construction boom in this area has opened more and more flats and residential complexes in the area.
