Vaughn Wiester

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vaughn Wiester is an American jazz musician and educator.

Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Wiester began playing with local jazz bands in his teens. After abandoning a music education at Ohio State University, Wiester worked as a freelance trombonist for several years, notably with Woody Herman in the mid-1970s.

Since returning to Ohio, Wiester has taught jazz studies at Capital University in Columbus (although he left that position in the early '90s), and has worked with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, the Rick Brunetto Big Band, Ernie Krivda and the Fat Tuesday Big Band, and many others including his own big band, the Famous Jazz Orchestra. A friend of Bill Holman, Wiester is also a very talented arranger.
