Vattiyoorkavu

Vattiyoorkavu is located in the north-eastern side of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) city, Kerala, India. River Killi flows through this area.

The name Vattiyoorkavu is believed to be derived from three words, Vatti - which means winding a hilly tract, Ooru - which means land, and Kavu - which means small temple. The name Vattiyoorkave was inscribed in golden letter in the freedom struggle movement of India. Thus Vattiyoorkav has got historical importance also. Vattiyoorkavu is a beautiful place with paddy fields, coconut trees and green cover everywhere. Educational institutions like Central Polytechnic College,Bharthiya Vidya Bhavan, Saraswathy Vidyalaya,A.R.R Public School,Govt.Higher secondary school and Lower primary schools are in Vattiyooorkavu. Sanhithya Panchanana Smaraka cultural centre adones Vattiyoorkavu. One of the units of ISRO is also situated here.Geological Surevy of India one of the unit is also located here,C.P.W.D querers also located here, Head quarters of Kerala State Audio Visual and Reprographic Centre and production centre of State Nirmithi Kerndra add value to Vattiyoorkavu. Police station, Post Office, Veterinary Clinic, Block Development Office are also there. Lot of banking and financial institutions like SBT, SBI,Canara Bank, Trivandrum District Cooperative Bank, Vattiyoorkavu Service Co-operative Bank are operating here. Aruvikkara Dam is 9 km away from vattiyoorkave.

The stones for the renovation of Sri Padmanabha swamy temple was mined from Kulashekharam, which is in Vattiyoorkavu. The Chamundi Temple at Thozhuvancode, Sastha Temple, Devi temple at Puthoorkonam.There is a granite quarry at moonammoodu near vattiyoorkavu.
