Vasco Mendonça

Portuguese composer, born in 1977. Mendonça has had works performed in Europe, in venues such as Het Concertgebouw, Ysbreker (amsterdam), Vredenburg (Utrecht), Beursschowburg (Brussels) and Casa da Música (Porto). Recent premieres include Reset (co-production Temps d’Image Festival/Muziektheater Transparent) and Cadaveri (recorded by the Trio Mediterrain at Classic Concert Records).
With pieces commissioned by various institutions, Mendonça has been performed in music festivals all over Europe, such as the Gaudeamus Music Week, the Haarlem International Choir Festival or the Ilios Music Festival.
Among the interpreters of his music are the Asko Ensemble, the Nieuw Ensemble and the Remix Ensemble.
Winner in 2004 of the Lopes Graça Composition Award, he will be Young Composer in Residence at Casa da Música in 2007.
Mendonça graduated in Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, after which he moved to Amsterdam to obtain his Mmus in Composition, under the orientation of Klaas de Vries.
