Vasant Bapat

Vasant Bapat (d. 2002) was a Marathi poet. Along with his contemporaries Vinda Karandikar and Mangesh Padgaonkar, he went on tours for public reading of poetry. He was a prolific writer. He was associated with Socialist Party, and its leaders like S M Joshi, Nanasaheb Gore, Madhu Limaye, G P Pradhan.
He chaired Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in 1999 when a major controversy erupted between him and Bal Thackeray.
His final days were marked by sadness following the accidental death of his son. He was fit until his late seventies, but the mishap affected him deeply.
He was a gifted raconteur.
