Varun Singh

Varun Singh, is currently Founding-CTO[1] of Web18[2], the online arm of Network 18 and Executive Editor of Tech2.com. He often co-hosts the popular program Tech 2.0 along with Abhimanyu Radhakrishnan.

He started a dial-up BBS called VRNet in 1996, and wrote on topics like hardware hacking, PC overclocking and Linux for PC Quest Magazine (India).

He did a brief stint as a reviewer at PC Quest Labs after finishing his schooling, writing articles. He then moved to CHIP Magazine to take charge of their Software and Operating Systems features and reviews. He wrote cover-stories on Windows ME / XP launches, the Linux vs. MS battle and regularly contributed to the “Drool Maal” section of the magazine that focused on high-tech photogenic gizmos and gadgets.

His next move took him to Network Computing Magazine, where he wrote about areas like Network Management, Communication Protocols, and Return on Investment in a technology infrastructure. He also worked as a Chief Implementer for the Network of the Future showcase at the CTO Forum 2002, building an operational network for use at the event, grounds-up, in two days.

He joined the IT Nation Group in 2003 where he was Editor of Techtree.com and was instrumental in setting up CXOtoday.com

Varun also presented at the Web Innovations Conference[3] on scaling Web 2.0 infrastructure with open source software. Varun has been a very public Linux and open source software advocate[4], and has, on numerous occasions, focused on making Linux more accessible to the masses[5].
