Varapodio (Greek: Varapodion) is a comune[1] (municipality) in the Province of Reggio Calabria in the Italian region Calabria, located about 80 km southwest of Catanzaro and about 35 km northeast of Reggio Calabria. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,279 and an area of 29.0 km².[2]
Varapodio borders the following municipalities: Ciminà, Molochio, Oppido Mamertina, Platì, Taurianova, Terranova Sappo Minulio.
The patron of Varapodio is Maria SS. del Carmine, or Our Lady of Mount Carmel, following a miracle in 1894.
Numerous emigrants from Varapodio live in Australia, principally Melbourne, Sydney, Cobram and Swan Hill as well as the United States and Canada. Swan Hill also celebrates the annual festa of Maria SS. del Carmine.
