Vapiano

Vapiano is a fast casual pasta and pizza restaurant chain, based in Germany. The concept is a pizza and pasta bar, where food is made to order. Vapiano also has a bar, with alcoholic beverages available. Vapiano also serves made-to-order salads.[1]

Vapiano employs a unique interface for customers order and pay for their food. Each diner is provided an RFID chip card that the customer waves in front of the counter when ordering food and drink. When the diner is finished, the card is waved in front of the register and the bill appears on the screen. Vapiano's decor reflects the resturaunts high emphasis on freshness. All dough and pasta are manufactured on-site in a glass room so customers can watch while waiting in line. All of the herbs and salad greens are grown in an enclosed space in the dining area and various herbs an even trees grow in the middle of the dining tables.

Vapiano has numerous locations in Germany, along with locations in Moscow,Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Hungary.[2] Vapiano opened a new location in early 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey.[1] In 2007, Vapiano expanded into the U.S. market, opening restaurants in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Opening loctations in Dupont Circle, Ballston, Virginia, and Dulles Town Center in Northern Virginia. Another location is slated to open in Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown early 2008.[3]
