Vanilloid
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The vanilloids is a type of nerve receptor which is closely related to cannabinoid receptors.[1]
As a type of nerve receptor, it is activated by a ligand, or neurochemical 'key', which will communicate a sensation within the nervous system. For example, the only vanilloid receptor found as of yet is vanilloid receptor subtype 1 (TRPV1). The specific ligand(s) for this receptor has not yet been found, but the endocannabinoid ligands, N-arachidonoyl-dopamine and arachidonoyl ethanolamide (anandamide or AEA) bind to VR1.[1]
