Vanilla (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vanilla was a girl band from Barnet, London, England which released two singles for EMI records in the late 1990s. The first was called "No Way No Way", and reached number 14 in the UK Singles Chart in 1997. It was based on Piero Umiliani's Mah Nà Mah Nà. The single was followed by "True To Us", which made Number 36 in 1998.
The band members were sisters Frances Potter (born 17 October 1974 in London), and Alison Potter (born 29 January 1980 in London); plus Alida Swart and Sharon Selby.
Although initially mocked on Channel 4's morning programme The Big Breakfast, the group regularly took part in the show's "Vanilla's Thrillers" feature, towards the end of their career. The song "No Way No Way" was number 26 on Channel 4's "100 Worst Pop Records". Both singles were re-mixed by the Xenomania, and present an example of some of their earliest work.
