[edit] Background

Clemmons is the vice principal (and, after episode 2x09, principal) of Neptune High School in Neptune, California. Veronica is constantly getting into trouble around school and as a result she meets with Clemmons often and is usually reprimanded. Occasionally, however, Van Clemmons asks Veronica for help, like the instance where he asked her to locate the missing school mascot.

In "My Mother, the Fiend," Vice Principal Clemmons instructed Veronica to organize some old files. This led Veronica to discover her mother's file that disclosed that her mother was spreading "malicious rumors about her classmates" while Veronica's mother was a student at Neptune High.

Veronica investigated this and found out that in 1980, a student dumped a baby in the girls bathroom at prom. Veronica discovered that the child left in the bathroom was actually Trina Echolls. At the end of the episode we find that Trina was actually Principal Moorehead's daughter, and the mother was a student. This was all part of Clemmons' plan to get the school's principal fired, thus promoting him to be the principal. He put Veronica to work organizing the old files knowing that nosy Veronica wouldn't be able to resist investigating her mother's file.

When Veronica graduated, she and Clemmons parted amicably. He noted the crowd's cheers when Veronica's name was announced, and continued:

CLEMMONS: I can't decide if my life is going to be easier or more difficult with you gone. Anything I should know in case I get another one like you someday?
VERONICA: Don't keep all your passwords taped on the bottom of your stapler. And stay cool, Mr. C.

He also had a cameo in "Un-American Graffiti" where he was caught on tape as being shot with a paintball gun by several Neptune High students.
