[edit] Wrestler
According to the juggalo championshit wrestling page, he wrestler with them, which I think is just funny, but should probably be included somewhere.
[edit] NPOV
Upon coming across this article, I was a little bothered by the direction that some of the editors took in placing negative opinions of this artist, using words like "egocentric" to descibe his music, and stating that 11 million copies makes him "arguably" one of the best selling rappers of his time. I'd just like to remind people that the wikipedia pages should remain factual, and nothing else. Remember: this is an encyclopedia. Accipio Mitis Frux 18:44, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David Bowie controversy/Real Deal
Maybe it was VH1: Behind the Music, or the E! Hollywood True Story, but I distinctly remember that the controversy between Vanilla Ice and David Bowie was more of a publicity stunt by Vanilla Ice, since Bowie had in fact given permission for the bass riff. Someone should check this. Also, he actually did have a rather rough, from the "neighborhood" type background, but unfortunately, he made up certain events that were exposed and made people overlook the fact that he actually was the "real deal". Someone should add stuff about this.
I do distinctly recall Ice also stating in an interview that the tunes were infact different and proceeded to tap and hum out the beat of his tune and then Bowies in comparison.. of course there was no noticeable difference.. not sure how to go about proving that.. maybe youtube.--213.152.46.79 12:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Ummmm Are you refering to Queen? The bass riff from Ice Ice Baby was thought to be copied from Queen's song Under Pressure. Behind the Music with Vanilla Ice did not mention David Bowie. NMBJ69 (talk) 08:25, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] MTV's Top 25 Lame incident
Should we mention his appearance on MTV's "Top 25 Lame" special in 1999, where after being egged-on by the hosts, he began to smash parts of the set with a baseball bat? --Paul Soth 03:42, 28 May 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Extreme Sporting Goods
Didn't he also ran a extreme sporting goods shop called "To the Extreme" in Miami which was according to the papers once.--Willirennen 14:17, 20 April 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Texan/Floridian
Is he a Texan? I thought he was from Florida? MK 06:14, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- He was born in Florida...thank god. Muya 02:21, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
He was born in Dallas, Texas. Ch06020016 15:04, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] British Reality series, The Farm
He appeared in the British reality TV series The Farm, something on this should be added.
[edit] Ice did not get dangled by suge knight
Columbia Heights, Washington, D.C.: Did you or did you not get dangled off the balcony by Suge Knight. Let's get the truth.
Vanilla Ice: No. I did not. It was kind of funny -- when they take a little bit of truth in the media. If it's not exciting, they polish it up a bit. I was on the balcony and had signed over a lot of contractual money to him and felt like I did the right thing. In a weird way, he was nice but firm with me. He took me to the balcony and talked to me... but it's funny how the story gets turned around... I'm wondering how that story got changed around.
I got the clue. I'm not no idiot. I feel like I did the right thing and it's 15 years ago now. It's old news.

[edit] Where's a picture of Ice!
What's with this picture? That's not the Ice I or 99.99% of the population remember. Where's the haircut? The eyebrow cutting? The jumpsuit? 202.142.214.75 22:50, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
- That's just the picture someone uploaded. But since it has no copyright info and is almost certainly a copyvio, it will be deleted soon enough, and then this article will have no photo. Tuf-Kat 06:12, September 10, 2005 (UTC)
The picture's caption says "Vanilla Ice's mugshot was taken in January 2001 after he was arrested for assaulting his wife." but the article doesn't mention this arrest, shouldn't it? Yes it should.

- Somebody really needs to upload a picture of Vanilla Ice. This article is falling into a state of disrepair. Toonmon2005 20:20, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio
External links lists "Video for 'Ice Ice Baby'" and "Jim Carrey's impression of Vanilla Ice from the 1990-91 season of In Living Color", those two are probably copyrights violations and should be removed. --Narcala 00:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
It wouldn't be a copyright infringement unless someone was passing it off as their own. The link clearly states "from In Living Color", which is now a defunct show. --JOK3R 20:32, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Baseball bat freakshow
Didn't Ice freak out on MTV and trash a studio with a baseball bat? that's something that wiki readers should know about. Somebody post some details.
MTV is not a live network. This was a taped program.
[edit] Bad song
The only reason people hate the rap song is because it's riff was stolen from Queen's Under Pressure. Before that was known, all the people who hated it today, liked it immensely. It's hypocrisy to say it was bad song in their mind always when it was popular with them when it first came out. It was it's slight copy of the riff that just destroyed it's chances. Nevertheless it's wrong to copy other's work and let this stand as a lesson. -Afghan Historian 05:39, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
"Slight copy?" No its the same exact riff.
Not true. I hated it the second I heard it. I also recognized the riff immediately; it's not as if it was hidden in the mix. It's always good in debate to state your opinion as a fact; however, the suggestion that "all the people who hated (sic) it today, liked it immensely", is laughable.

[edit] Cleanup
A few areas of this article ned some cleanup. Specificly thepargraph just above the "Legacy" section. It's unprofessional, choppy, andseems a little redundant. I'dfix it, but I don't really have enough time to do it. Gopherbassist 22:50, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rebranded image
Someone should edit the part about the balcony incident.

[edit] Corrected HTS credits
Fixed the really incorrect crediting of Hard to Swallow. I've got the actual liner notes, neither Dave Kushner or Scott Shriner are credited at all. Sonny Mayo isn't listed in the credits on AMG, but the guitar is credited as "Sonny" and the music writing credits list "Mayo" among other last names, it really sounds like Sonny Mayo's guitar work, he wasn't really doing anything else between Snot and Sevendust, so I'd say it's safe to assume it's Sonny Mayo. [edit] Birthplace?
This article and the Swedish version say he was born in Dallas, but the German and Finnish versions say Miami Lakes (the Polish gives both). Anyone have any authoritative source backing up one over the other? -Elmer Clark 09:15, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Several online sources say he was born in Miami Lakes, FL. I am going to change the article to reflect this fact. 1 2 Chad 19:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
He lied about is birthplace to increase his record producers income. He is from suburban Texas.
- Could you provide a source? The majority of sources seem to support Miami Lakes. -Elmer Clark 21:45, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
He was born in miami,FL but moved to dallas texas when he was young. *YaHeard* 2:20,april 19 2007.
No, he was born in Dallas, Texas; lived in Garland, and Midlothian, Texas until his mother divorced and moved him to Paris, Texas in 1977. She later re-married and moved back to the Dallas area, settling in Carrollton, where Rob attended High School at R.L. Turner.Ch06020016 15:14, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Name
Why did he pick the name Vanilla Ice? Is it something to do with him being white, or, in black vernacular, a vanilla face? Scott Gall 10:08, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
what about his discography ?
- I'd like to find this out as well. I'm hoping to come up with a name that's just as good. Burgdorf 04:07, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- Erm, aside from it being a play on the name Ice-T (who was so widely known by then), vanilla="white" (which would be to say, "not chocolate," as in "a white person, not a black person, doing rap") ice="cool" (as in "another James Dean wannabe" or whatever). Iced tea, vanilla ice, get it? Never mind the first three letters of his stage name are the same as the three-letter preposition which begins his Dutch family name. Gwen Gale 23:42, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- "How did you come to be called Vanilla Ice in the first place?
- Back when I was 13 or 14 I used to spin on my head on cardboard and break dance, and I had a bunch of black friends and they just labeled me Vanilla Ice. Actually, I didn't like it, so they just called me it more. It just stuck with me like a nickname."

[edit] Thor
I noticed on the Surreal Life Fame Games that Rob sports the "Thor" gear all over the place. I can't find any references on the Internet as to what this means. Can someone explain? --Trentjohnson 04:25, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

anyone know if vanilla ice is circumsized or uncircumsized?
[edit] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
If I recall correctly, Vanilla Ice made in appearance in the 2nd or 3rd TMNT movie. I think that should be mentioned...just a thought.
- It was TMNT2: Secret of the Ooze. Mcflytrap 16:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] So bad it's good
"However, in the early 2000s, it enjoyed a new status as a so-bad-it's-good cult film." Maybe someone can create an article on Wikipedia explaining what exactly "so-bad-it's-good" means and what the 'cult' is that's surrounding this, possibly including examples of things (movies, songs, ...) that are so bad they are considered good. The so-bad-it's-good saying gives me 0.2 million hits on Google and is used on several Wikipedia pages, so a more detailed explanation is probably welcome. --62.194.194.24 15:42, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
