[edit] River Phest?

Deleted paragraph: "The city is best known for its annual festival - River Phest, an annual event sponsored by Van Meter natives Luke Jennings & Buzz. Luke Jennings' secret ambision is to become an aligator wrestler (in honor of the late Steve Irwin)."

My boyfriend has lived in Van Meter his entire life and has never heard of River Phest. Also, the info about Luke and Buzz, especially Luke's secret abition, is unrelated and not necessary. Tygartl1 19:14, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I was raised in Van Meter, Iowa and am very familiar with River Phest. The informaiton included about Luke and Buzz is important, both were raised in Van Meter and are very much a part of the festival. Please be sure you know what you are talking about before you tell people something isn't true. If your "boyfriend" doens't know about it, it's because he isn't in the loop and probably has his head up his ass. River Phest started in 1996, the year we all graduated, and we all come back every year to make this trip down the river. We have over 300 people planning to attend this year which if you knew anything about Van Meter, you would know that is about half of the population. The previous unsigned comment was added by Meierkch 12:56, April 17, 2007

I don't know what your attitude problem is, but there is no reason to talk like that. If you continue to be abrasive, I will report you. I'm going to change the wording "best known for". Van Meter is probably best known for being the home of Bob Feller. When I mention van Meter to anyone, they certainly don't say, "Van Meter, Iowa? Oh, you mean the home of River Fest?" The way the section is currently worded it suggests that the town itself promotes and sponsors RiverPhest, which I don't think is the case. The only google searches of RiverPhest result only in the finding of the Myspace page, which makes the whole thing not notable by wikipedia standards. Another way of putting it is if RiverPhest had its own separte page on wikipedia, it could and would be subject to a quick delete as being un-notable. Normally, I would let group consenus determine whether the section stays in or goes so I will give it some time to see if anyone else voices an opinion. Otherwise, we'll probably need a third party arbitrator to come in and make a decision. Browne34 02:52, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding income

Deleted: "The amount of money is increasing, because housing developements make land prices go higher. The current owners of farm ground will profit nicely from developement."

Assuming good faith, the wording and insinuations of this are somewhat inappropriate. If you really feel this should be included, please try to find an appropriate way to re-word it. Tygartl1 20:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
