[edit] Band history

The band was formed in 1987, but due to the band's members' army obligations, they managed to get media's atention in 1990. The band consisted of numerous musicians: Aleksandar Eraković (vocals), Dejan Pejović, Dejan Petrović, Dušan Varda (backing vocals), Dušan Pavlović (guitar), Dejan Jovanović (bass guitar), Goran Redžepi (drums), Borko Borac (saxophone) and Dejan Tomović (keyboard).

They released their debut album Rama lama ding dong in 1991. Title track was a cover of The Edsels' song "Rama Lama Ding Dong". The album was mostly doo-wop-oriented, and brought hits "Malena", "Hajde, hajde", "Ove noći", "Sve što želim to su sni". Album featured a cover of Carlo and The Belmonts' song "Little Orphan Girl" (Vampiri version titled "San letnje noći"). Guitarist Branko Potonjak, keyboardist Sloba Marković and saxophone player Jova Maljoković made a guest appearance on the album. The band soon became popular among teenage girls, and performed as an opening band on Vaya Con Dios concert in Sava Centar. In the spring of 1991 they appeared at Belgrade spring festival performing a cover of Đorđe Marjanović's song "Beograde". With song "Meni njena ljubav treba" they won the first place at MESAM festival. Their second album Tačno u ponoć ("High Midnight") brought similar sound as the first one. In 1993 they wrote music for Srđan Dragojević's movie We Are Not Angels. Four songs used in the movie were released on the album Be-be ("Ba-bies"). Album also featured song "Ding ding dong" which won second place at Jugovizija music festival.

In 1995 they relased Plavi grad ("Blue city") in the new lineup: Aleksandar Eraković (vocals), Dejan Tomović (keyboard), Dragan Novaković (bass guitar), Saša Petrov (guitar) and Srđan Milenković (drums). Album featured hits "Plavi grad", "Stari voz", "Neću" and "Ona i ja" (cover of The Searchers' "Needles and Pins"). Former Vampiri members Dejan Pejović and Goran Redžepi formed Familija with former U Škripcu members.

In 1997 the band relased album Monkey food. With this album band moved towards more different genres of rock. The title track was a cover of Spencer Davis Group song I'm a Man. Vampiri relased Monkey food with Jožef Pisanović (guitar), Srđan Jovanović (drums) and Saša Filićić (bass guitar) as the new members. Soon afterwards Vampiri disbaned.
