What does "outright land speed record" mean? 300 mph was surpassed in 1935, so surely this isn't quite the same thing. Is this over a shorter distance? (eg. 500m?) --Interiot 16:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

• I think it means "land speed record on British soil" (most of the land speed records are set on the salt flats of Utah or some such). Kinitawowi 17:45, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps it means fastest on land for any vehicle. I'm sure there are other land speed records steam powered, pedal powered, electric powered, on rails, etc? Talskiddy 08:44, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
