Valley Middle School

Valley Middle School is a middle school in Carlsbad, California. It has about 1,200 students from grades 6-8 and is part of the Carlsbad Unified School District. It offers an outstanding Performing Arts program.

The Valley Middle School Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Band won all possible awards in 2006 in the Music in the Parks competition. They also won the Esprit de Corps award for being the best behaved school in the competition.

Valley Middle School's principal is Carolyn Millikin who replaced the now retired Kim Marshall in 2005. Valley Middle School's State test scores are excellent. In 2005 they received an 800 average score and in 2006 they received an average score of 816. This shows that the school is rapidly improving.

The addition of the sixth grade at Valley Middle School is new. The addition of sixth grade students debuted in the 2005-2006 and has been a success. Valley Middle School is divided up in to Villages. The sixth grade Villages are A and B. Seventh grade is C and G. Eighth grade H and I. This form of grouping allows for smaller classes and faster learning.

Valley Middle School's mascot is the Viking. The Viking shows the strength of Valley Middle School and how it works together always. Valley Sports had a fall in the 2006-2007 school year. The only basketball team was a girl teams nicknamed "The Valley Underground". They have an amazing group that works together like a well oiled machine. The Vikings hope that this breakthrough will result in the return of competitive sports.

Vikings also participate in the annual science olympiad. In 2007-2008, they took 10th place out of 27 schools for the regional competition.

Valley Middle School is an excellent school that offers a proper education to all middle school students. It has a team of staff that never give up and a group of students that always goes the extra mile. That is why they are the Vikings.
