Valley Humane Society is an animal welfare organization in Alameda County, California, advocating responsible pet ownership. They seek to provide their community with educational outreach and collaborative programs that enrich the bond between people and companion animals and eliminate unnecessary euthanasia.
[edit] History
Valley Humane Society has been improving the lives of Tri-Valley companion animals for over 20 years. They are the only no-kill facility in the area to accept animals by private surrender. Incorporated in 1987, the organization was started and initially operated solely by volunteers. Valley Humane Society shifted to a board model of governance in 2003 and hired its first Executive Director shortly thereafter. Since then the Society has grown to employ eight full and part-time staff members, who manage operations supported by over 150 dedicated volunteers.
For many years the Valley Humane Society operated out of a rental property in downtown Pleasanton, CA. Their founding volunteers dreamed of a permanent home and they took the first step in 2004 with the purchase of land on Nevada Street where their current facility is located. Their future plans include many exciting ideas and new programs aligned with their mission including the dream of building a new state-of-the-art facility for the people and animals in the Tri-Valley.
Valley Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that receives no government funds, tax dollars, or money from national humane organizations. Their programs and services are available because of the generosity of people like you.
