[edit] Biography
Sigurðsson studied music and played in bands from early on. At the age of 16, he got his first break in a small Reykjavik studio where he spent days and nights recording band demos and chopping up 1/4" tape. Mostly teaching himself the ins and outs of the recording studio by trial and error, he shortly took charge of the studio, which he directed for two years before leaving to study at London's SAE. He then returned to Iceland to make music with his band and do studio work with different artists.
He set up Greenhouse Studios in 1997 where he continued producing and performing with local musicians and writing for various projects. As his reputation built, he was approached by Björk for programming and engineering for her on the soundtrack for Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark. They started a working relationship that has been consistent from early 1998 and Valgeir has become Björk's main studio conspirator, assuming various roles in all her projects since.
An inventive programmer, arranger and writer utilizing a combination of traditional methods and digital surgery, Valgeir has acquired a 'recording / production black belt' through wealth of experience gained from diverse and demanding productions. The Greenhouse was relocated in the year 2000 and built to spec as a stunning creative sanctuary for Sigurðsson and visiting collaborators such as Múm, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Howie B and composers Nico Muhly and Ben Frost. Sigurðsson has worked with an array of innovative artists, focusing to push new boundaries. Lately, also directing more time into his record label, Bedroom Community, and to a highly anticipated debut album Ekvílibríum.
