Valentyna Shevchenko

Valentyna Semenivna Shevchenko (Ukrainian: Валентина Семенівна Шевченко; b. March 12, 1935 in Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast) was a long-term Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR between 1984 and 1990.

Since September 1997, she is the honorary president of the National fund of social defence of mothers and children "Ukraine - children".

In a sociological poll conducted in 2004[citation needed], she was amongst the five more important women of Ukraine with : Princess Olga, Lesya Ukrainka, Yulia Tymoshenko and Yana Klochkova.
