The Valdez Police Department ("VPD") provides the primary law enforcement response for the 270 square miles within the City of Valdez, Alaska including the Alyeska Marine Terminal and the terminus of the Trans Alaska Pipeline.

The population of the city is officially 4,254, but increases in the summer months due to the influx of fish industry workers and tourists. The Department provides police patrol, criminal investigative services, court officer services, and assists state and local agencies with their duties and projects.
The Department Dispatch Center provides communications for fire and emergency services. VPD also operates a 13 bed contract jail. Crime prevention and education programs are provided to local schools and businesses.

There are 11 sworn police officers at the Valdez Police Department. The Department Sworn Personnel consists of One Police Chief, One Lieutenant, Two Sergeants, One Investigator and Six Police Officers.
The Valdez Police Department is located inside the City Hall building at 212 Chenega Street in downtown Valdez.
There is currently 11 Registerd sex offenders living in the valdez county jail at this time.
