Valérie Favre (born 1959, Evilard, Switzerland) is an artist who lives and works in Berlin.
Since 2006 she is Professor of painting at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
1999 Valérie Favre startet a painting series called „Lapines Univers“, what could be translated as „bunny women in the universe“. It consists of animal women that are a mixture of Lara Croft, who is the virtual pesonalization of a powerful woman and the bunny girls from playboy, who are the personalization of the reduction of a woman to her sexuality. This series has a liability to feminism, because the french word „Lapine“ does not only describe a bunny, but also a penis, if it is spelled „ la pine“. So Favre uses the paint brush as a kind of substitude for a penis to persist in the chauvinistic surroundings in the field of painting.
She is represented by Susanne Vielmetter [1] in Los Angeles and Barbara Thumm [2] in Berlin, Germany.
