Thanks for the accolades Valentinian :-) I'll do a Ref section within this weekend. I know about the 3RR Rule... I think we could apply it now to user Gon4z, as he has done 5 reverts on each of the two articles Albanian Land Forces Command and the Military of Albania within the last 24 hours. I myself try to stay clear of this rule too- right now user MacGyverMagic, MrMacMan and I split the revert work between us three to keep under the 3RR limit. Also I contacted DAJ and administrator sven-steffen arndt from the German Wikipedia. DAJ is one of the German Military projects most active members and he wrote most the German article about the Albanian Military Albanische Streitkräfte. As user Gon4z writes he "can keep duing this (reverts) all day" I guess we need to find a solution, that will stop him,... although I doubt there is anything to stop him, as he even does not read the discussion posts we write. I emailed yesterday the NATO liaison office in Tirana, the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces and the Albanian Ministry of Defence, asking them to provide us with up to date information to post on Wikipedia. Today I received an answer from the NATO Liaison Office in Tirana: Lieutenant Evangelos Kokkalis, from OF - 1 (HE-A) NHQTi / PIO wrote, that I request “information which (he) doesn't have the authority to provide (me) with.” But he gave us 2 big compliments for the work we are doing :-)
So, now we will just have to wait for the answer of the Albanian General Staff, as all other sources Gon4z does not accept, as he saw all these numbers on Albanian TV on April 17th (first version) or got them all from his Albanian Army Colonel uncle “second version”…
Anyway- enough for today, I will do a bit more work on the Chilean Army tonight and start working on Croatia in the next days. best regards noclador 21:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Danish actors

I have created a number and will create many articles on dnaish films and actor swhich are on danish wikipedia. Some need translation . Please translate the danish ones in Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation thankyou . Hope you are well ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 14:06, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm fine, but I don't have the time to go through a ton of articles, and I don't think other Danes here have that amount of time either. Please don't do this. Valentinian T / C 15:48, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Who said anything about tons of articles there are only a few. You disappoint me that your project cannot be bothered to help on my articles related to Denmark. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 11:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

As for saying that me creating articles like Otto Brandenburg which clearly have so much potential "please don't do this" I find that very ungrateful and quite offesnsive that my efforts are not appreciated ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 12:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

For instance what is the problem with e.g Buster Larsen? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 12:07, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, they are only a few at the moment, but you are known for making a very large number of articles in a very short time, and da:Kategori:Danske skuespillere is very big, so I don't wish to see a situation with 200 Danish articles getting deleted. I don't own WP:DK but I am the most active member, and to the best of my knowledge the most active Danish editors are all somewhat strapped for time. Would I like to see a bigger number of Danish editors and more active ones? I would, but the number of hands is currently rather small - and this has been the case for a very long time. Unspecified source for Image:Ostad Elahi 1.jpg

I don't thnk the image tag is correctly placed. Please check. DenizTC 15:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Nicely spotted all three images of him seem to be incorrectly tagged. However, Iran's copyright law seems rather liberal, so I presume {{PD-Iran}} applies since this person was a publicly known figure. I've replied on your talk page. Valentinian T / C 08:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
But the source seems to be a ostadelahi.com website, which is NYC-based [1]. Do the US laws apply or the Iranian ones (or the ones less/more restrictive)? DenizTC 21:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I hadn't noticed that intricacy. My guess would be that Iranian law prevails. In U.S. law, the scanning process doesn't give an additional copyright. I've asked a U.S. editor to take a look. If I remember correctly, he knows more about images than me. Regards. Valentinian T / C 22:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Elahi never left Iran, so when the photograph was taken in Iran, Iran laws are followed (since that is where the photo is taken). Since it has been over 30 years since the photograph was taken in Iran, the copyright has expired and PD-Iran is the correct tag. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 23:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

777a (talk · contribs)

Hi, I noticed you've reverted a few edits by this user. I've run into this editor before under the guises of A67 (talk · contribs) and A87 (talk · contribs) who was banned for consistently uploading images without source information, and then repeatedly restoring them to articles from which they had been removed by orphanbot. I'm sure this is the same person as the account was created the day of or day after the previous accounts were permanently blocked.

This is just a "heads up" but also a request to keep an eye on them. They clearly have a lot to offer the project, but I can't fathom why they feel the need to proceed in such a disruptive manner. In some ways, actions like these are worse than vandalism, because at least that's funny and obvious and easy to revert, but something like this is a lot harder, and they keep re-registering under new accounts. What is so mind boggling is that they are going through a lot of effort to actually contribute, yet they seem to be unaware of just how hard they are making things for themselves and editors like me who try to keep some semblance of sanity in this place. Perhaps their first language isn't English, so hence don't understand the warnings being given, but I doubt it, given the coherence of their contributions. I am really baffled by this. Any ideas?

Me helping with images... first time for everything, I suppose! I've deleted all but three of these images, the others all having no licence info, and being either seven days old, or duplicates of same. The remainder either claim GFDL (presumably entirely bogusly), or are apparently new. One wonders if some of these aren't actually valid as copyright expired, though. Military Tag

Hi. I thought I could create tags for a determined category thats why I did it. I never intended to do it ilegally.

I decided to wait a while to upload more images to see if I was doing something wrong. Guess its better later than never. Anyway, I wont upload more images to www.wikipedia.org and Ill stop using the tag.

Im no soldier, I've never serviced in the Portuguese Armed/Security Forces or any Defense organization. It is therefore VERY dificult to get images to portuguese military articles that have the necessary info you guys want. Im not demanding a change in the wiki policy, this is just the reality.

The photos you see WERE released to the public. Indeed I could tell that I lied on the tag. The paratrooper images dont come from neither the Army, Navy nor Air Force websites, but from a Portuguese Airborne website. (www.paraquedistas.com.pt) However I didnt post any images from the official military websites referenced above.

I could easily ask for authorization to use them on the forum of the website, but I would like to get help on how to use tags whom the photo taker gave permission to use. IE I think I can use images from www.paraquedistas.com.pt although they were released to the press.

If no solution is found for this problem Ill have to give up on my project of enhancing the Portuguese Armed Forces articles since I find images to be a critical elements of them. Plus it really pisses me off seeing UK and French military articles with images for example and I cant do the same.

I await your reply. HKFlash

Exchange rate template

Hi,

I see that you put DKK, SEK, and NOK are "mutual friends" in the exchange rate template. I know that the template documentation doesn't say how to choose additional currencies. And what you did make sense. But I've been adding those to all other currencies (still work in progress). And it seems that I'm the only one who's been doing it. The unwritten rule I use is that the import and export percentage from and to a foreign country must add up to 20% in order to get that foreign currency listed. And the extra foreign currency must be of at least a developing country or of regional importance. But sometimes exceptions can be made to the 20% rule (e.g. important neighbor). I'm not trying to impose anything. Just want to know your thought. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 09:30, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Coat of arms of Denmark

I saw on Inge's talk page that you are working on the Coat of arms of Denmark article, and I though this might interest you ([2]). It is the coat of arms of Adresseavisen (established in 1767), the regional newspaper for Central Norway (Midt-Noreg). I don't know the history behind it, but if you decide that it is relevant for the article, then I can do some digging and try to find a better image. -- Nidator 15:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

The first issue of the "newspaper" from the 3rd of July 1767 is available online at the National Library of Norway in scanned form ([3]). The coat of arms on the front page is of very good quality, so you should be able to use it. As you can see, the modern colourised version is extremely faithful to the original. I have found a top quality version of it too, in Adresseavisen's financial report for 2001, if you decide that you are interested anyway. I assume that the reason for being allowed to use of the coat of arms is to be found in the original name of the newspaper, "Kongelig allene privilegerede Tronhiems Adresse-Contoirs Efterretninger" (my emphasis)? Why is Sweden represented though? -- Nidator 21:21, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Hm. It is a bit of a mess. United States is both a noun and an adjective, as is New Zealand. I think Hong Kong is, too. India, though, is definitely not an adjective and neither is Malaysia. All the others seem to be adjectival. As for Japan, that's a real oddment - I'm not sure why we have that one at all. Perhaps changing the India and Malaysia categories over to adjectival forms is a good start... Grutness...wha? 00:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Greetings, Bohater. Thanks for your post. Unfortunately, my German grammar is rusty, so I hope it is ok that I reply in English?

The problem here is that the entire stub template "tree" uses a rather inflexible system regulating both scopes and names for the templates and categories. This is the reason why I read "Kurdistan-stub" and "Kurdish-stub" as the same thing since e.g. the German templates are named: {{Germany-stub}}, {{Germany-bio-stub}}. For the record, I am quite aware that the Kurdish people is distinct from the other nationalities in the region, and I have nothing against the Kurdish people. If we assume that WP:WSS bends the naming convention a little; I don't know if {{Kurdish-culture-stub}} could work? It is just a thought, and I don't know how other stub sorters will react since this is not the way we normally split material like this. We did approve {{India-culture-stub}} some time ago [4] and the "real" category system has Cat:Kurdish culture so perhaps we could attach a stub template about Kurdish culture to this one. A {{Kurdish-hist-stub}} would be more problematic since we don't have a good category to attach it to. My only interest in this issue is to keep the template system in one piece and to avoid templates that can lead to edit warring, so if we adopt a template for Kurdish culture, it will have to use a different image than a flag. Just my thoughts. Happy editing. Valentinian T / C 15:48, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, you are right. but I think we should try with {{kurdish-stub}} like the assyrian one. --Bohater 16:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I'll have to give this issue some more thought. I'm still not sure how a larger number of templates like this one will affect the current system. Valentinian T / C 16:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Well the assyrian one. It works very well. In addition you have written on your User page, that you speak German very well. You should change that. --Bohater 16:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Valentinian T / C 18:10, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Meine Deutschkundschaften? Ok, einer meiner Mitschüler war eine Deutscherin. Valentinian T / C 20:18, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut - in fact it is schrecklich - so I'll stick to English :) I've no objection if some way can be found to make a strict Kurdish-stub that doesn't impinge on stubs better served with Iraq, iran or Turkey stubs of some variety... the problem is maintaining it so that it doesn't get misused or altered by other editors. (I've replied a bit further on my talk page). Grutness...wha? 05:32, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Problem with editor and SFD

Hi Valentinian - we may have a problem with User:Thedjatclubrock. I nominated his {{Placeholder}} and its category as a "stub by any other name" at SFD. He's twice removed the sfd templates, and has now blanked the WP:SFD debate. He's probably just about blockable because of it (though for some reason the SFD templates don't have a "do not remove" message like other xFD templates...), but since I'm the one who instigated the SFD I'm not keen to do it myself just yet. I'm asking you and Alai to keep an extra two pairs of eyes on things just in case it happens again. Grutness...wha? 01:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

You've warned him now, right? If he continues his disruption, then no skin off my nose. And all this seems to be due to a one-line "article" about a non-notable song by a non-notable band. I've listed that one as db-music. The template is currently one big "I own this space, don't delete it" statement, and last time I checked, WP:OWN still applied. Hi there. I removed the CSD tag from that song as CSD A7 applies to groups, musicians, bands, etc., not to individual songs. As an aside, Dave Matthews Band is indeed notable and has a substantial article to boot.
I'm also here to ask you to be nice to Thedjatclubrock (talk · contribs) as he's very new and while I condone neither the creation of useless templates and categories nor the erasure of deletion templates and discussions, I'm sure he did it out of ignorance of the process. Just look on my talk page how long it took me to explain to him how to use the recent changes feature. I think gentle correction is in order here, as I sincerely believe this is a sincere editor who's just making some mistakes while being bold. Thanks and happy editing! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 03:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Greetings Elipongo. It is great if the topic of the article actually has some notability but the current article gives no indication why this song should be notable. Did it break any records? Has it been debated a ton of places IRL? Did it win anything special? Did the group collapse because if it or jump to fame? I know a ton of songs, but articles about individual songs are very rarely notabe (Istanbul (not Constantinople), Waterloo (song) or God Save the Queen jump to mind as cases that are above the notability threshold). Unless the editor adds more content establishing why the topic of the article should be notable, another editor will simply notice and list the substub for deletion again. I've updated the SFD deletion templates with the same disclaimer as used on AFD, so it should be obvious now that it constitutes disruption to try to derail an xFD procedure. Happy editing. Hi again. I quite agree with you that the song article should probably be deleted; in fact I think that most of the song articles out there should be deleted— along with lots of the other pop culture stuff too. I erased the notice because CSD A7 was not applicable in that particular case, (though if it wasn't for the fact that it was a song by a notable band, CSD A1 could have applied.) If you want to, I would raise no objections if you were to {{prod}} it.
Thank you very much for updating the template to be more explanatory about the process. Hopefully that will reduce the incidence of similar problems with well-meaning editors.
Thanks for your hard work, frankly all the complexity in stub sorting is enough to make my eyes cross; I'm amazed and gratified that you guys can keep it properly organized. Cheers! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 19:30, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to you for the praise. It is always nice to see somebody appreciating what we do at WP:WSS. I agree that a lot of the pop culture material doesn't go very high on the notability scale. The current situation looks pretty resolved to me and it was our own fault at WP:WSS that everybody forgot to add the missing disclaimer to the templates. Anyway, that's been fixed now. Happy editing. Valentinian T / C 21:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
