[edit] Benifits of WikiProject Country Music

There isn't exactly any bentifits, but there is a goal it is to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to country music. O'Malley II 16:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Country Music

You should sign up for the WikiProject Country Music. Also who's you favorite country singer ,duo, and group? O'Malley II 05:46, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Popups

A tool I find useful for editing pages (and browsing wikipedia in general) is Popups. Look into it at your leisure. --Disavian 02:20, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of banner

I removed it because the banner belongs to the talk page and not on the main page. Look on the other articles. Diabound00 07:23, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't know I never read that it belonged to the main page. However all wiki-projects I know place the banner on the talk page. Diabound00 07:29, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Daedalus class battlecruiser

Look I am not saying Kvasir is the Asgard engineer I am saying Vasir is as shown in the Stargate Sg-1 season 10 premiere. If you have not seen it yet then I am sorry for angering you but in the premiere there was an Asgard aboad the Daedalus that seemed to be the engineer. Course I may end up being wrong.

[edit] Battle of P3Y-229

Thanks for the compliment and the edit. Konman72 10:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: roman numerals

Were all human here right? Would you like to learn the roman numeral? It is easy just to leave them in normal numbers so they can be read by everyone. Until they are actually referd to as numerals it is best just to leave them as normal as possible. ;-) Matthew Fenton (contribs) 10:08, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I dont believe they teach them, the only ones i know are on clocks, and i dont actively remember them. Matthew Fenton (contribs) 20:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Singles

I actually started the discography page for Sara Evans because the album table was so long... It was really adding to her page's length. I copied the singles chart over there as well since it was a complete discography page. Another user actually got rid of the singles chart altogether on her page, I put it back, but as a compromise, I limited it to only hit singles.

Many, many artists and bands have this. Not as many in country music, because country artists' pages aren't as developed on wikipedia as non-country artists right now. For examples; Rachel Stevens, Shakira, Aerosmith, etc.

If a general concensus is reached that the entire list of singles should remain on her main page, it's ok with me. Camcallister 14:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

From ebegoun, please stop changing all of the country music pictures I have been updating...all of the picture for Faith Hill & Sara Evans are relatively old so I am freshening them up. Thanks for your support.

[edit] Kenny Chesney

Ok I will stop. The fun is now over. But don't any of y'all forget the one and only Outlaw! Turn out the lights the party's over they say that all good things must let's call it a night the party's over!!!

[edit] Language

Welcome, and thank you for correcting spelling on Wikipedia! However, both spellings of the word you "corrected" are acceptable.

Please familiarize yourself with American and British English spelling differences before making further spelling corrections to articles. Wikipedia has 7,288,350 registered users on this English Wikipedia. These editors use different versions of English including American English and British English. The list of dialects of the English language goes on and on.

When many styles are acceptable, avoid changing from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It is acceptable to change from American spelling to British spelling only if the article concerns a British topic or vice versa or if you are making the article internally consistent.

More information is available on Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Enjoy your time on the internet's fastest growing encyclopædia/encyclopedia . Thank you.

[edit] Colours

Hi, could you please add your opinion or a support or a oppose at this page it could decide the fate of colours in not only episode infoboxes but, nav boxes, celeb boxes.. etc. MatthewFenton (talk • contribs) 09:37, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello. Just to let you know (you asked in your mesg) that there have been implications discussed about those colours, such as accessibility (colour blindness, etc...). Others have raised some convincing arguments against. The JPStalk to me 09:57, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ancient City Ship - Lemuria

Do you not understand the idea behind No Original Research? The idea that fans think it might be Lemuria, even though there is absolutely no factual basis behind the idea, has no part on that page, and is completely in the realm of speculation. I'm reverting this once again...please do not replace it without *citing* some sort of source as to why it has relevance. As for your last note, it is just as possible that the city ship's name could be "Xtmprszntwlf", but it's not being included because there's no reason to believe it actually is. (note: I'm not trying to sound hateful, but this is frustrating. I hope you can see where I'm coming from.) -- Huntster T@C 07:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

That's the problem though...how speculative are you willing to get? I understand your side, I do, but at what point do we say that one speculation is worthy of inclusion, but another isn't? The only way to prevent a feedback loop that keeps building and building until it cannot be contained is to stop it from happening in the first place. Wikipedia strives to be a source of factual information, both of the real world and the fictional ones. Personally, I love debating what could be and couldn't be, what some piece of technology in Stargate or Star Wars might be capable of, how fast it can go, possible etymologies and histories, etc etc, but that is better left to message boards and blogs, not a place like the 'Pedia. In those places, people can debate and come to a consensus on the best mix of speculation and "fact", but this simply isn't the place. Revert wars (and thus 3RR), NPOV, OR and a whole host of other guidelines are in place for one reason: to help those looking for real data to find it, and not be led astray by a third party's vision of the truth. There's a reason citing sources is demanded...for Stargate, and all other things, let's stick to what can be proven, okay? -- Huntster T@C 09:18, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blake and Mortimer TV series

There's no US DVD release as far as I know, but recently in the UK there was a boxed set containing every episode in English, and at a very reasonable price. It's region 2, but you may be able to pick up a region-free DVD player to watch them. Hope that's of help! Richard W 13:47, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] US Hot 100

I'm sorry! I totally forgot to respond. Sorry for the delay.

The US Hot 100 gives equal opportunity to all genres of music. It takes into account 1)Radio Airplay 2)Digital Sales and 3)Physical Sales. Country songs have their own chart, the Hot Country Singles chart that is solely based on radio play. Billboard uses an Audience Impressions system for Radio Play which measures how many people are reached when a song is played by a station on the radio. The reason that country songs rarely make it on the top half of the chart is because unless they are getting played on pop radio or some other format other than country in addition to country radio, then they aren't reaching as many people. There aren't as many country stations out there as other formats and many of them don't reach as many people as the pop/r&b stations. Rock songs (harder rock, not more mainstream like All American Rejects or Nickelback) rarely get very high in the Hot 100 either.

Songs like "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood reached #20 on the Hot 100 because it was played a lot on country radio (#1 for 6 weeks) but it also received a good bit of airplay on Pop radio, which helped boost it's postition. It also did very well in digital sales (such as iTunes).

Digital and Physical sales are another contributing factor. Country songs don't sell as well on iTunes as Pop and Hip Hop songs, so that is another reason why they don't chart as high. "Life Is A Highway" and "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts this year both made it in to the Top 10 on the Hot 100 because they did very well in online sales in addition to getting good airplay on country and some on other formats.

I hope this helped clear things up! Let me know if it didn't or if you have more questions!

Camcallister 16:10, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I think its just because country music isn't quite as popular as other formats. Pop and Hip Hop are the two biggest formats and there are many stations that play both equally, giving them even more power in radio. I don't think its an age issue... I think country music is just as popular with young people as it ever was which shows in album sales. Country is the only genre where physical album sales are up for the year. [edit] Ori ship destruction image

I did take the screen shot myself but the PrtScn key wouldn’t work in my media player so I set up my tripod and camera in front of the monitor and took a picture wale it was paused. I then cropped it down to what you see. If you have any ideas on how to make Windows Media Player allow print screens with out the picture keep playing in the picture editor??? I would like that. [edit] Reverts

Hey, when your reverting good-faith edits could you explain why in your summary please? thanks/MatthewFenton (talk • contribs) 22:20, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Tbh, the stats are uncited; no one persons are correct until we can cite them. A summary like "RV - I dispute your measurements and so am reinstating the old ones." - would be great ;-)! thanks/MatthewFenton (talk • contribs) 22:31, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:SaraEvans.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:SaraEvans.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 22:50, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "I have changed the image information to reflect that, is it now settled?"

No, you also need to prove that this is a promotional image. The terms of use (http://www.dancingwithsara.com/MeetSara/tabid/57/ctl/Terms/Default.aspx) state that all contents are copyrighted and all rights are reserved. This implies that this image is not part of a promotional kit, as you have been claiming, and that we cannot use the image on the Wikipedia. Additionally, the license requires that you provide a detailed fair-use rationale which you have not yet done (though as noted, I do not believe we can use this image). --Yamla 23:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Sorry, but I'm not up on all these terms and such, if it's not promotional, what would you call it then? Can you at least try to work with me on this instead of poo pooing everything when I try to help? No offense intended. What would you call it? Music sample or something rather? Sara Evans doesn't have any photo gallery on any of her sites, so I figured that was a promo image in a way."

Well, according to the license, we are not permitted to use the image at all. I cannot see any license that would be appropriate for this image. As a general rule, Wikipedia tries to avoid copyrighted images, preferring free images instead. I'm sorry I can't be more help but I cannot see any license that would be appropriate for this image. --Yamla 23:35, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Fine, I understand your're angle now, but I'm sure your familiar with the user Ebegoun, he's been blocked at least twice for uploading images all the time, I've had talks with him and he won't listen, personally, I was fine with the old, old image that's been on the page forever but he keeps putting current ones that he's finding on google and listing several sites as the copyright holders when they aren't, I did this in an attempt to at least find one correct image and have it stay that way, as he keeps doing this and I'm tired of seeing the page with 1 pic for a few days then it's gone the next, I did this in an attempt to stop all these deletes from happening."

Yes, I'm monitoring Ebegoun's actions. --Yamla 23:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Also, why do we even need to fuss with all these liscensings? It's for an encyclopedia so why do we need it? It's not like we're priting out the images and selling them so why does it affect that site?"

Well, copyright law doesn't permit the use of copyrighted images except under fair-use, even for non-commercial sites. But note that Wikipedia actually is (at least planning to) burn DVD's with the images and distribute them, possibly technically for profit. --Yamla 23:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "I though so, so why not block Ebegoun permanently? He doesn't strike me as the type to learn from past mistakes."

We are assuming good faith (see WP:AGF) and dealing with the matter using escalating blocks. --Yamla 23:46, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said: "Ok, well, that's complicated I'm sure, but why does Wiki want to burn DVD's with images and sell them? That sounds kind of odd to me."

Many people do not have access to the Internet. A complete snapshot of the Wikipedia along with (perhaps a subset of) the images could be quite useful. The DVDs would likely be distributed at a very low cost, only enough to cover distribution costs or perhaps to help support Wikipedia generally. However, either would likely fall into the legal definition of "distribution for profit". --Yamla 23:46, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ori Friar

It is definitely a weird situation. I would actually suggest that you list it for speedy deletion since it won't be a controversial deletion. Just put {{db-nonsense}} at the top instead of the thing you have now. Either that or just redirect it to Prior using #REDIRECT [[Prior (Stargate)]]. Konman72 21:10, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Something weird is definitely going on, there should have been at least one or two votes by now. I would suggest saying something on an admin's talk page to see what might be going on with the AFD. If you don't want to go through that trouble then just put the article up for speedy deletion, it does meet the criteria. Just put {{db-nonsense}} at the top and it should be gone in less than an hour. Konman72 00:56, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Seems the admin didn't really know about Stargate at all, so he didn't know that it definitely needed deleting. I just changed it to a redirect, so now anyone looking for that article will just get sent to Prior (Stargate) instead. Should fix the whole deletion problem and catch anybody who doesn't hear the name properly. Konman72 08:17, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Glad I could help, thanks for pointing it out. As far as knowing this stuff, it is just a matter of finding a page that does what you want to do and then copying it. Like for the redirect, I went to battle of p3y229 which was a known redirect and copied the text, then changed the link to Prior (Stargate). I guess I learned a lot over the summer, I had no job and nothing to do so I just spent all my time on wiki lol. I ended up doing a lot of admin type stuff, so I learned a lot about deleting pages, basic coding and more. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, I love to help out. Sadly though I can't help with the logout problem you mentioned, if your cookies are working fine then you should stay in. I have no idea what could be wrong there. [edit] Stargate (device)

Hi. I've just removed the comment you added to Stargate (device) about what the producers said about wormholes staying open as long as the scene permits. If you can provide a reference for that (the webpage where they said it, or the details of a tv interview, or whatever), please put the comment back in with the appropriate citation. Thanks. --Tango 11:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 304 class

If the Daedalus follows traditional airforce conventions, it is also the 304 class. You know, F22, B52, ec. The fact that landry called the Korelov a 304 clearly indicates the Daedalus is a 304, and so is every other ship of the class. It might not be an offical name, but even unoffical names are useful. [edit] Watchlist

Honestly, it is up to the individual. I actually have over 250 on my watchlist and that is perfectly fine since I check in a couple of times a day. It comes down to how active you are and how active the articles are, if you have a lot of very active articles and little time to check them then you should probably trim them a little. But if you are like me and only have low-average activity articles and have no trouble monitoring them then more power to you :) Konman72 07:53, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ori BC

Please watch the episode an you will notce the ori weapon fires in "streams, a.k.a a 'pulse'" — A beam weapon is a weapon which when fired makes contact but does not stop until the weapon its being fired from stops.. a pulse weapon fires in a pulse which continues to travel, a.k.a the Ori weapon .. which you will notice continues to travel after leaving the cannon. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 20:37, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Faith Hill

Only images under a free license are permitted in the infobox. Arniep

Just someone missed it. Most images on people's official websites aren't going to be OK- you could try and find one on Flickr availiable under a Creative Commons Attribution or Attribution ShareAlike license (if one isn't availiable they might release it under that license if you ask them- just explain it will mean their image is free to be used by anyone without their permission if they do). Arniep 00:20, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
If they do the article will be locked. Arniep 00:25, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Post the link and I'll look at it. Arniep 00:28, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Nope that ones no good as it says All Rights Reserved in the bottom right corner. I've found a better one that's availiable under a Creative Commons Attribution license here [1] (don't upload it I'm doing that). Arniep 00:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
It's in the article. There are a few other images from the same user I might add although they're a little blurred. Arniep 00:53, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey!

Sorry about not getting back to you! I kinda stepped away from wikipedia for a little while.

The CMT top 20 is purely for entertainment. It is compiled based on the popularity of videos, not the songs. Many videos that make the top 20 never get anywhere near the top 20 on Billboard... sometimes never even charting at all. Billboard is based on radio play and CMT contributes to that chart.

I believe the CMT top 20 is ordered by what people on the CMT.com message boards write about videos... if they want to see a particular video more then it will go up on the countdown. There isn't any correlation between the two.

I hope that helps!

[edit] shock sites

hi... i'm suprised your talk page so long.... anyways, about the shock sites article... it's iffy and a borderline article as it is, not relying enough on secondary sources or any sort of non-user-made observations or analyses. Articles like these, especially if they involve some sort of a list, are highly subject to either major bloat from multiple users adding what they deem important to the article, or revert wars (like we're seeing on this article), with alot of back and forth on what users deem most important to the article. anyways, if you want to add something to the article, i suggest you post about it first on the talk page, so that others can check the information and offer any fixes and suggestions. this way, your edits will most likely not be reverted once they pass. in addition, we're really trying to fix and back up with sources the material that's already on the article, and so please understand if users are resisting major adds to the page. !Blueaster 03:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jason Michael Carroll

I dunno... I guess the song just caught on quickly at radio due to it's subject matter and traditional sound. Alot of times labels will release singles from country artists way before they'll release an album or even have final plans for an album. Look at Amy Dalley... she's released probably 6 or 7 singles and none of them have done very well, so the album has been pushed back and pushed back... maybe one day we might see it. So, that could be the case with this guy. Since the single has become a hit, maybe an album is soon to follow and that would mean more information on this guy. We'll probably start to hear about him more soon. Camcallister 13:17, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rascal Flatts

They're not country at all. They are pure pop. I bet you've never even heard of Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Sr.Oh yeah Garth Brooks isn't country either. Ihatebubblegumcountry 18:17, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eye Colo(u)r

Hey! While you were right to revert the changes to the Eye color article, it was not for the reason you gave. That Wikipedia's servers are mostly based in America is neither here nor there. That the article was a) not clearly about a topic which would suggest a specific dialect (eg, UK parliament is written in British English, Steve Irwin is written in Australian English, George Bush is written in American English) and b) the first significant contribution to the article used US English, taken together, tell us we should stick to US English for this article. Other articles on 'neutral' topics may be started in a different variety of English, and they should stick to those. This is all in the WP:Manual of Style.

I only mention this because your edit summary indicated some confusion on this point. Your action was right in this case, but it would be annoying if you got into a scrap with someone later on a different article where you were wrong :-) Hope this helps somewhere in your illustrious wiki-career. Skittle 15:25, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I would also like to provide input regarding your edit. Although this is an American site, true English, as opposed to American English, is written and spoken far more commonly throughout English speaking cultures across the world than its American counterpart. I do not wish to criticise or reverse you additions, only to ask that you please take this into account for future reference, as this is an entirely valid reason for the use of true English. I noticed to note thing you put on the Rascal Flatts discussion page about their new songs that are not singles. [edit] Jessica Andrews

I'm not sure about her new album, it never made it any where on the album charts, but i think her single made it somewhere. Not really sure but I know it wasn't that signifacant. --Musicaltheatrewiz 19:58, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for Nothing

I have avoided the SG pages like the plague because they haven't aired in the US and I don't want spoilers. Your oh so considerate edit summary on the Daedalus class put the spoilers where I couldn't avoid them. Real nice going. Alyeska 06:15, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

There is no edit war as I am not editing the page. Your edit summary is what I am talking about. You know, that section right above the save page button. Daedalus is on my page watch list and edit summaries show up. Alyeska 21:50, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reversions

Please explain this edit, promptly, please. Citations must be given, an edit summary is not good enough. You've also failed to explain your reasons for reverting the other bits. 60 seconds. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 16:37, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Citations are never pointless. If it's from an episode it should always be cited. Hopefully you also see my point as to why I tagged it for citation, because I didn't believe "BC-304" had ever been used, either. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 17:35, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
