Vajpayee

Vajpayee is a surname equivalent to Awasthi and Shukla especially prominent among North Indian Brahmins.These people were the only entitled performers of revered and powerful vajpaya yagya. Bajpai is synonymous to vajpayee.^{[citation needed]}

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, is a prominent individual with this surname.
