[edit] Date

"The district of Vaishali came in to existence on 12/10/1972. Earlier it was the part of old Muzzafarpur district." If so 12 Oct or 10th Dec? Rich Farmbrough 00:02, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

A request to all the fellow Wikipedians interested in the development of contents of this page: I shall be adding (say, by end-April/ early-May 2006) some more contents to this page. If some one may add a map and picture/s, the page shall become better. Thanks. --Bhadani 12:29, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Questionable history

The proposition that this was the first republic seems quite dubious. Can the author or whoever is saying this provide any scholarly documentation? It sounds like someone is beating the drums for India. Scholarship I have seen suggests that nothing approaching actual elections or "rule by the people" demokratia existed. Please provide additional substantiation. - —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.122.42.13 (talkcontribs) July 17, 2006 (UTC)

In case, you are really interested to learn more at least you may begin by reading the external links. In case, you have tagged because you heard the world Vaishali first time in your life from Wikipedia, you would require to go beyond. --Bhadani 03:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ancient city / current district

The name Vaishali in the old times referred to just the city, not to a district or a state. Vesali was the capital of the Vajji country, and which had its democratic parliament/senate in the city of Vaishali. I suggest splitting the page to distinguish between the current administrative disctrict, and the ancient city of the vajjians.Greetings, Sacca 16:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

It is really a good idea. The page Vaishali or any other properly named page may be seeded with appropriate contents. --Bhadani 17:44, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
