Vadamattam is a small, primarily agricultural village situated between Kumbakonam and Kariakkal in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The village is positioned next to S.Puthur is accessed via another village known as Koneri-Rajapuram where the local post office is located.
Immediately on crossing a Bridge of a Small River , one of the Tributaries of River Cauvery we step into the village Panchayat(administrative)Region of Vadamattam. The village is fully dependent on agricultural economy as it is in the heartland of Cauvery delta region. Many small Hindu temples dot the village of which some are well maintained. One of the Well Maintained temples is the temple of Betha Perumal alias Varadharaja Perumal which is the Family Deity of about 80 families.
The Roots of these families are believed to have been started around this Vadamattam village and near by or adjoining villages, the Span of which covers till Thirubuvanam village which is known Traditionally for its Silk Textiles Manufacturing expertise . The Ancestry of these families began from these surroundings here in the Vadamattam Village.
Now these families have Multiplied and are spread across the state of Tamil Nadu and the Whole of India as well. Some of the Families have Immigirated Abroad including the United States, Europe and Australia. The Priest and the Administrator of this Temple are striving to find out the total number of families related to this temple by maintaining a register of the families who come to Pray their Family Deity enshrined here.
The Temple of Betha Perumal alias Varadharaja Perumal was renovated and Mahakumbabishekam was performed in August 2005.Mahakumbabishekam for Temples should be done once in Twelve years according to Hindu methodology of temple construction and maintenance. Many Hindu Deity's including the VadaBathraKaliamman are Present in this temple through their respective idols installed during the Mahakumbabishekam as is the Primary Deity BethaPerumal ailas VijayaRangaPerumal.
