Vadalur vallalar is a saint who lived in 1823 at vadalur which is located near the chidambaram in the cuddalore_District in the state tamilnadu of the southern india.He was one of the most notable saints on the Indian sub-continent during the 19th century. He was born on October 5, 1823, in Marudur near Chidambaram and He is the fifth child and last son of his father Ramayya Pillai and mother Chinnammayyar.

He is the person who has got the god as guru and His knowledge was through divine grace,He had given the great contribution to the people from the god at Vadalur, where he set Gnana Sabai and Dharma Salai. He asked people to worship god as light (Arutperunjyothi) and every person should be of utmost love and compassion for all the living creatures. The state of being humbleness is expressed throughout is literary work named as Thiruvarutpa. He emphasize free offering of food to the needy people to visualise god in their face. He represent the GOD in the form of LIGHT.To understand this he had shown the "JOTHI DARSHAN" inside gnana sabai on thai poosam (festival in the month of January)in vadalur. From the year (25.1.1872) onwards this jothi darshan is conducted every year up to today in very grand manner.

As per TAMILNADU census http://www.tn.gov.in/population, Vadalur had a population of 25,902. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Vadalur has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 61%. In Vadalur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age .
