VAD is a three letter acronym that can mean one of the following:
- Vertebral Artery Dissection is a tear in the wall of the vertebral artery. It is an increasingly recognized cause of stroke in younger people, and may arise spontaneously or as a result of minor trauma (such as injury or chiropractic spinal manipulation).
- Variable Air Duct is an automobile technology. An engine equipped with a VAD intake has a low-restriction secondary intake before the air filter that opens at high RPM to allow more air to enter. Mazda uses this technology on the Mazda6 engine.
- Ventricular Assist Device, a piece of medical machinery.
- Voluntary Aid Detachment, a nursing organisation operating in British Empire countries during World Wars I and II.
- Vincristine-Adriamycin-Dexamethasone, a Chemotherapy regimen used for multiple myeloma.
- Voice Activity Detection is used in speech encoding software to determine if the voice being encoded is human speech or background noise.
