[edit] Adoption
Hi Vadigor,
Thanks for your message - I will take note that the WP:ADOPT is not as clear as it could be and seek to clarify here and there. Adoption is for whoever to do whatever - it can be technical on how to edit, how to use wikimarkup, how to create templates. It can procedural - e.g. how to interpret [[WP:Reliable sources] or how to putting an article with WP:AFD. It can also be about how to deal with other users in conflict or in other difficult situations.
So I have some very new users - who are just learning the basics and some more experienced users that I am more "mentoring" in very difficult conflict situations. How it works is really up to the Adoptee - you get out what you put in. :):)
In terms of a leader - there is no such thing, I just seem to do all the donkey work at the moment.
I will get back to you on the Image question shortly. Cheers Lethaniol 22:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay I would be happy to adopt you - in terms of discussion the best bet is to leave a question on my talk page and I will reply on yours - alternatively you can have a separate subpage of your user area where we could keep the discussions in one place e.g. see User:Swerdnaneb.
[edit] Answer to Image use question
Hi Vadigor - right I know nothing about images, apart from the general chit chat you catch between other users - but I have found this Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Fair_use_considerations, which I think answers your questions.
Basically you can take pics of copyrighted/trademarked stuff (e.g. a phone - see Iphone for example) as long as the detail of suitably LOW quality. If you have it too high a quality just save it as a lower quality :).
See this is what I like about adoptions I get to learn things all the time. Cheers Lethaniol 23:09, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Reverting Vandalism
Yep you did the right thing that is not so obvious vandalism. You should also leave a message on the users talk page - in this case the Anon IP - see here and here for a list of different warning templates you can use. Cheers Lethaniol 16:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well done - yeah best to go easy with new user especially anon-IP cos they may never be the same person. You seem to know WP:BITE without looking at it :):) Cheers Lethaniol 16:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Informing Admins
You have to inform the Admins your self - see Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention for full list of options but I suggest you use Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism for an Anon IP.
I saw you helping out at [[Catch-22] - yes my pet subject - thanks - will look into the spoiler issue - or be bold and do what you think is right. Cheers Lethaniol 17:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Picture Caption
With the C.Love picture this is a good faith edit, and probably does not need reverting - the extra info on where the pic was taken is irrelevant and only the date is important. Be careful with recent changes it is easy to step on people's toes by mistake - I know I have done it loads - WP:AGF and you will be fine.
Also two pieces of advice - us the preview button (next to save page) to check the edit people saving - will help you at low. And if you are interested in recent changes see User:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool. Cheers Lethaniol 17:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Category Question
Hi Vadigor,
Right a couple of things with Show-off - it is currently uncategorised. If you ever see this, do not discuss on talk page (in particular for a stub), be bold and add the category yourself (or you can always add more than one - you could all three in this case). Currently there is only a stub note - similarly you can change or add this as required.
So for all short articles they should have a stub and category and can have more than one of both!
In more controversial situations it is appropriate to discuss on talk page first - but generally if there is no response in a few days then I will go ahead and do what I have suggested. Remember your edits can always be reverted if needed - and if you edited in Good Faith there should not be any problems.
Hope that helps - and I look forward to your first article - if you wish me to review it just say. Cheers Lethaniol 20:38, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry but perhaps some IP's have changed?
I was just now reviewing some material on the Great Lakes - I live near them - and noticed some message about being suspected of vandalism regarding some apparent music executives - people I have never even heard of before, let alone looked up here on Wikipedia.
Apparently, there is some confusion about IP addresses. I may currently have the IP address you felt was associated with some unsavory act on January 15th, but I can assure you - such work did not originate from this system.
If you can enlighten me further on this matter, please do.
Being a computer professional, I too - have nothing but disdain for those who seek to weaken the infrastructure or credibility of the Internet whether knowingly or by virtue of willful ignorance.
Regards
DB

- Dear DB,
- it seems that you have a variable IP adress which incidentally changed to one which was the same as an IP used to vandalise an article (from your information, I take it it was this one).
- It looks like your IP has changed again to 70.226.100.97, from the previous adress which was 70.226.99.27. I assume that, given such an elaborate explanation, you honestly have no involvement in this pathetic act of vandalism. I'm sorry you had to fall victim to this IP problem, and I suggest that you create an account to prevent these mix-ups in the future.
- Sincerely, Vadigor 20:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

- PS - I left the same remark on the talk page of the IP used by you to reply here.
[edit] Show Off
Sorry for my tardy reply have been taking a few slow days off from Wikipedia - have looked at the article - which you have done exactly the right thing taken it to a WP:AFD - well done. Cheers Lethaniol 19:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
