Vachaspati

Vachaspati (vacaspati "lord of Vac (speech)") is a Rigvedic deity presiding over human life. The name is applied especially to Brhaspati, the lord of eloquence, but also to Soma, Vishvakarman and Prajapati.

Vacaspati is also term for an orator in the Bhagavata Purana, and the name of a rishi, a lexicographer, a philosopher, and others.

Vacaspati is also the name of a poet, prasasti (panegyric) to Bhavadeva Bhatta. He is also called Vacaspati Kavi (poet Vachaspati) to distinguish him from the Sanskrit scholar Vachaspati Misra.

Vachaspati is also an ancient raga in Carnatic music and belongs to the 64rth mela. It was later borrowed into Hindustani music, like many other Carnatic raga. [1]
