UWC of the Adriatic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

United World College of the Adriatic was founded in 1982 and is located in Duino, in the outskirts of Trieste, Italy.

About 200 students from over 80 countries between the ages 16-20 attend the college, most of which are selected through a scholarship program by the UWC National Committees around the world. It was the fifth United World College and the first to be founded outside the English speaking world. The College is unusual and unique within UWC in not having an isolated campus.

The first College, Atlantic College, in Wales was founded in 1962 inspired by the ideas of the distinguished German-born educator Kurt Hahn, who also founded schools in Germany and Scotland as well as inspiring the Outward Bound Movement. The special feature of UWC Adriatic is that due to its border location, both Italian and Slovenian are widely spoken. Also, all students admitted to the college receive a full scholarship which usually worths about EUR 40,000.
