Template:Uw-lang

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In a recent edit, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you.

Template documentation

Usage:

{{subst:uw-lang}}
{{subst:uw-lang|Article}} references a specific article
{{subst:uw-lang|Article|Additional text}} adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"
  • This template has been carefully designed based on guidelines by the user warnings project.
  • For usage instructions regarding this template, see documentation.
  • Please discuss the general visual appearance of these templates (for example, the image in the top-left corner) on the user warning talk page.
  • Please refer to the index of message templates before using any template on user talk pages to warn a user. Applying the best template available for your purpose may help reduce confusion from the message you are sending.
  • Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:uw-lang}} rather than {{uw-lang}}.
  • This template uses a parser function. To give greater detail to your message, you may add the article name and some additional text to the end of the template.
  • Optionally, add |subst=subst: to the end of the template to reduce the code in the final output:
{{subst:uw-lang|Article|Additional text|subst=subst:}}
  • This should however only be done if you use the Article parameter of the template. There is a currently investigated bug on the MediaWiki software that breaks the template if you omit this parameter and use |subst=subst:.
